Uhrenmuseum Beyer
This unique museum, which originated from the private collection of Theodor Beyer (1926–2002), houses 260 rare and precious timepieces of all kinds dating from 1400 BC to the present day: non-mechanical elementary timekeepers such as water clocks, sundials, hourglasses and oil-lamp clocks, a very early mechanical tower clock (1522) from Switzerland, Gothic iron chamber clocks, magnificent Renaissance clocks, Swiss clocks with wooden gears and sundry curiosities. Exhibits include numerous precious 18th and 19th century watches: pocket watches with exquisite enamel artwork and a considerable number of watches by famous watchmakers such as Abraham Louis Breguet (1747–1823), the ingenious watchmaker from Neuenburg. Marine chronometers and navigational instruments complete one of Switzerland’s most important collections of watches and clocks.
This museum greets you in the following languages: D/F/E
iPads privide visitors with information about most of the clocks and watches on display in six different languages: German, English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish and French.
