Ritterhaus

The Ritterhaus (House of Knights) in Bubikon is considered the best preserved former commandery of the Order of St. John in Europe.e. Its history dates back to
the year 1192. The Ritterhaus has been owned by the Ritterhaus Society (“Ritterhausgesellschaft”) since 1936, the year of its foundation. The Society
managed to prevent this remarkable medieval monument from falling into disrepair and created a Museum relating the history of the Ritterhaus and the various orders of knights. Since 1959 the Ritterhaus has been designated a National Historic Monument. Today it is a wellknown meeting place and has attracted nationwide interest.

Between red, indigo and purple. The colourful world of the Middle Ages

-
To challenge the cliché of a dark and undeveloped Middle Ages, this exhibition focuses on the colourfulness of the Middle Ages, which can be found, for example, in painting, clothing and manuscripts, and illustrates the origin, processing and meaning of colours in the European High and Late Middle Ages.

A children's picture book and tables where children can learn about the contents in a playful way bring the historical content to life for young guests as well.
