Museum zu Allerheiligen

The Museum zu Allerheiligen is located in the middle of the picturesque historic center of Schaffhausen. In the former Benedictine monastery of Allerheiligen, alongside artifacts from the monastery’s past, the museum brings together archaeology and cultural history, a significant collection of antiquities, an art collection with works by Cranach, Hodler, Val¬otton, Otto Dix, and Adolf Dietrich, as well as a natural history collection. The museum cafe—with the idyllic Pfalzhof open in the summer—is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The cathedral, cloister, and monastery garden are open to the public during the day.

A Life for Art. The Painter and Collector Kaspar Ilg

-
This exhibition recognizes the donation from the heirs of the artist and collector Kaspar Ilg (1921–2011) and his wife Anita (1934–2017), which was made to the museum in 2018. The couple had lived in Hallau since 1974.
The presentation of 90 artworks by 32 artists places Ilg’s works in the context of his collection. They enter into a dialogue with his fellow artists, his teacher Max Gubler, and contemporary Swiss painters.

Down to the Bone. Stories from the Grave

-
This special exhibition presents graves from Schaffhausen ranging from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages. Skeletal remains and grave goods illuminate the lives of the deceased. Interactive puzzles invite visitors to conduct their own research: What do bones reveal, and what do they conceal? Why do some graves have many grave goods and others none? And what might archaeologists find out about us one day? These and other questions will be revealed in the exhibition.
