Musée international d'horlogerie «L'homme et le temps»

The Musée international d’horlogerie preserves and exhibits a rich collection dedicated to horology, from its origins to this day. Clocks and watches are presented in an exceptional architectural and museographic setting.
The exploration of horology, a field which has brought renown to Switzerland and, more particularly to the area of the Montagnes neuchâteloises, makes it possible to discover numerous treasures born from the ingenuity of man. The search for accuracy has been combined with artistic perfection, as can be seen from the items exhibited.

The scholarly quest for accuracy has been at the heart of watchmaking innovation since the 17th century. From the Second World War, physicists took over from astronomers and horologists in the pursuit of accurate time measurement. From 1967, the second was no longer defined via astronomical observations such as the passage of the sun across the zenith, but by measuring a microscopic phenomenon : the oscillation of caesium atoms.
