Musée d'Estavayer-le-Lac et ses grenouilles

The museum is housed in a 15th-century customs building, where novelties from the past are combined with modern museum presentations, creating a special and unique atmosphere. The Museum possesses a rare collection of 108 taxidermically prepared frogs (approx. 1850) presenting themselves in human poses. It is for them that the Museum is also known as “Frog Museum”. They are humorously set in scenes of 19th century everyday life and are surrounded by masterfully crafted miniature furniture. These relate to the other exhibits of the museum that show many aspects of life, work, fashion and wars of the past. The collections displayed are primarily donations by families from Estavayer and Fribourg. The local museum was opened on May 8, 1927.

L’exposition aborde les pratiques et traditions culinaires de la région fribourgeoise à travers le menu de la bénichon, temps fort de la gastronomie locale. Des souvenirs personnels partagés de vive voix accompagnent le parcours historique et met en lumière le quotidien culinaire d’autrefois.
En explorant quinze secteurs thématiques, l’exposition donne vie à un monde oublié et invite les visiteurs à réfléchir sur la façon dont la nourriture a évolué au fil du temps.
