Aargauer Kunsthaus

The Aargauer Kunsthaus houses one of the finest and most comprehensive public collections of modern Swiss art. Nowhere else can one so fully encounter its rich variety, from the late 18th century up to the present. The representative part of the collection is on permanent display. Dynamic handling of the extensive stocks of the Aargau Art Collection regularly provides new points of view and offers interesting exhibition experiences.

Jean-Luc Mylayne - The Autumn of Paradise

-
The exhibition gives insight into the work of the extraordinary international artist Jean-Luc Mylayne (b. 1946). At first glance, his photographs appear like casually taken everyday images. Ever since his first picture in 1976, his oeuvre revolves exclusively around the encounter with birds. The bird is the protagonist of his constructed scenes but also a conceptual partner on an equal footing.

Stefan Gritsch - Bones n` Roses

-
The work of Stefan Gritsch (b. 1951) is, in the broadest sense, grounded in painting: he takes its conditions and expands them in many different directions. After various institutional presentations in Switzerland and abroad, the Aargauer Kunsthaus is devoting a comprehensive solo exhibition to the Lenzburg-based artist in his home canton of Aargau.

MASK. In Present-Day Art

-

More

Masks make us think of Carnival, of the rituals of African tribes, of death masks, theatre, film and fashion, as well as of role play, disguise and protection. Masks are an ancient, often controversial object of human cultural history. And masks also have a long tradition in the visual arts. But how is the subject being addressed in contemporary art?
